Welcome To Roundhay School

Roundhay School is a vibrant and successful comprehensive school which reflects the truly cosmopolitan nature of Leeds. We are delighted to have been recognised by Ofsted as An Outstanding and high performing school where every child really does matter equally’. We are thrilled to have equalled last year’s best-ever GCSE Year 11 results at 64% 5+ A*-C with English and Mathematics. We are proud of our broad, appropriate and largely traditional curriculum that equips our young people for the future. This is reflected in our EBacc performance, which was twice the national average and placed us fifth in Leeds. We believe that our motto, ‘Courtesy, Co-operation and Commitment’, underpins our academic success. We feel it is important to work hard together as we seek to develop well-rounded young citizens for the 21st Century. We are fortunate to have committed staff, excellent facilities and a thriving sixth form of nearly 400 students. We are also well supported by parents, of whom 99 percent would recommend us to other parents. All these help to make us the most popular school in Leeds.

We are far from complacent and never claim to get it right all of the time. Staff tirelessly seek to improve all that we do, in and out of the classroom. We expect no less of all our pupils, as we set everyone high standards to achieve. That ‘pupils are proud of their school’ (Ofsted) is reflected by the highest attendance rate in the city. We believe it is important not to stand still and are honoured to be a National Support School, assisting other schools in the city and region through sharing good practice.  As development of this role, we have become a strategic partner with a cross-LA Teaching School Alliance (Red Kite), again utilising our expertise. In addition, after an approach by the Local Authority, Roundhay will become an ‘All-through school’ (4 –19 years) in September 2012.  We shall have a newly-built £4.5 million primary centre located a mile from our main school campus to serve the needs of an expanding primary-aged population in Leeds.  Exciting times indeed for us! If you wish to find out more about this or any other aspects of the school not contained on the website, please do contact us.

Head's Notices

We return this New Year with a great deal planned for the coming half term. However, before looking forwards into 2012, I wish to thank all of you who took the trouble to express your praise of and appreciation for what proved to be an excellent Christmas music concert, which obviously appealed to the audience as a whole.  Both pupils and staff, on and off stage, do have to make a huge commitment of effort and time to achieve such a polished performance and they are always grateful to receive your feedback.  The final week of the autumn term also featured the Year 13 (Class of 2011) Presentation and Reunion Evening, when we were delighted to see again so many students who had made their way back to school from across the country to celebrate their final examination results.  It is always wonderful to hear their tales of life beyond school and the evening reminds us how quickly time passes as we race towards the next set of summer examination results.  Indeed, Year 11 will be receiving their mock examination results in January as well as, in most cases, GCSE ‘modular’ results in Maths, Science and English.  Likewise, Years 12 and 13 are also diligently preparing themselves for the summer.
