Welcome To Roundhay School

Roundhay School is a vibrant and successful comprehensive school which reflects the truly cosmopolitan nature of Leeds. We are delighted to have been recognised by Ofsted as An Outstanding and high performing school where every child really does matter equally’. We are thrilled to have equalled last year’s best-ever GCSE Year 11 results at 64% 5+ A*-C with English and Mathematics. We are proud of our broad, appropriate and largely traditional curriculum that equips our young people for the future. This is reflected in our EBacc performance, which was twice the national average and placed us fifth in Leeds. We believe that our motto, ‘Courtesy, Co-operation and Commitment’, underpins our academic success. We feel it is important to work hard together as we seek to develop well-rounded young citizens for the 21st Century. We are fortunate to have committed staff, excellent facilities and a thriving sixth form of nearly 400 students. We are also well supported by parents, of whom 99 percent would recommend us to other parents. All these help to make us the most popular school in Leeds.

We are far from complacent and never claim to get it right all of the time. Staff tirelessly seek to improve all that we do, in and out of the classroom. We expect no less of all our pupils, as we set everyone high standards to achieve. That ‘pupils are proud of their school’ (Ofsted) is reflected by the highest attendance rate in the city. We believe it is important not to stand still and are honoured to be a National Support School, assisting other schools in the city and region through sharing good practice.  As development of this role, we have become a strategic partner with a cross-LA Teaching School Alliance (Red Kite), again utilising our expertise. In addition, after an approach by the Local Authority, Roundhay will become an ‘All-through school’ (4 –19 years) in September 2012.  We shall have a newly-built £4.5 million primary centre located a mile from our main school campus to serve the needs of an expanding primary-aged population in Leeds.  Exciting times indeed for us! If you wish to find out more about this or any other aspects of the school not contained on the website, please do contact us.

Head's Notices

The summer term has finally arrived and we are in the midst of the external examination season for three year groups; though, in truth, examinations seem to be an all-year-round experience for the most tested generation in the history of English education.  It will be interesting to see what form the examination system will take in the year 2026, when our first cohort of reception-aged pupils, starting this September, will complete Year 13!

It is quite a thought, but as one of the first all-through 4-18 schools in the country, we are delighted to see that the building work on our Primary campus off Wetherby Road has begun at long last.  We are pleased to have been asked by Leeds City Council to cater for much-needed places, as a result of a population explosion in our local community, and believe that we shall grow as a school, as well as benefit from pioneering an all-through educational experience.
