We were thrilled last year to equal the previous year’s best-ever GCSE Year 11 results at 64% 5+ A*-C with English and Mathematics. We are proud of our broad, appropriate and largely traditional curriculum that equips our young people for the future and that Ofsted judged to be a ‘memorable’ learning experience. This is reflected in our EBacc performance, which, in 2011, was twice the national average and placed us fifth in Leeds. We believe that our motto, ‘Courtesy, Co-operation and Commitment’, underpins our academic success. We feel that it is important to work hard together as we seek to develop well-rounded young citizens for the 21st Century.
We are fortunate to have committed staff, excellent facilities and a thriving sixth form of nearly 400 students and to be well supported by parents, of whom ninety-nine per cent would recommend us to other parents. All these things have helped to make us the most popular school in Leeds for over a decade and account for our ‘increasing reputation and popularity amongst parents, including for the sixth form.’ (Ofsted)
We are far from complacent and never claim to get it right all of the time. Staff tirelessly seek to improve all that we do, in and out of the classroom, as Ofsted noted: ‘..very successful in their work to improve the school.’ We expect no less of all our pupils, as we set everyone high standards to achieve. Parents are very supportive: ‘highly responsive staff are very accessible… The school is justifiably held in very high regard by parents.’ (Ofsted) We have the highest attendance rate in the city. We believe it is important not to stand still and are honoured to be a National Support School, assisting other schools in the city and region through the sharing of good practice. As a development of this role, we have become a strategic partner with the inter-local-authority ‘Red Kite’ Teaching School Alliance. In addition, after an approach by the Leeds Local Authority, Roundhay will become an ‘all-through school’ (4 –18 years) in September 2012. We shall have a newly-built £8 million primary centre, located a mile from our main school campus, to serve the needs of an expanding primary-aged population in Leeds: exciting times indeed for us! If you wish to find out more about this or any other aspects of the school not contained on the website, please do contact us.
